These homes have become permanent members of their families. Their neighborhood, the streets, parks, schools, and businesses are a big part of their histories. This connection has built up over generations in some cases five plus generations.
These were the homes built by hand through the family. Materials were selected, pulled, and hauled completely by hand. Someone’s grandmother sewed the curtains, and the china used for Sunday dinner can date back to great grandparents.
This identity to family is so very important and what many are trying to rebuild. It may sound materialistic but its not the materials that many are trying to recover it is there idea of family. Unfortunately for some it has vanished drowned by broken levees and broken promises. Others are still fighting.
